What it feels like to play

Erangel is the “everything map”. Big open fields, chunky forests, and lots of small towns that create those classic mid-range fights. Rotations matter, vehicles matter, and you’ll rarely regret carrying a smoke or two.

What to expect

  • Early game: Hot drops are fast and chaotic, but you can also land quiet and build a kit without being chased immediately.
  • Mid game: Rotations across hills and fields are the main skill check. If you move late, you’ll feel it.
  • Late game: Lots of “micro-cover chess” around ridges, trees, rocks, and compounds.

Tips that usually pay off

  • Plan your next move before the circle forces it. Erangel punishes last-second sprints across open ground.
  • Keep at least one long-range option. Sightlines can get big, especially in late circles.
  • Smokes win games here. Treat them like extra health bars.

A bit of history

Erangel is PUBG’s original battleground, present from the game’s early access launch in March 2017. It’s been updated and refreshed over time, but the core idea is the same: classic battle royale pacing on a full-size 8×8 layout.

On this page you can see when Erangel is in rotation for different PUBG regions, what kind of gameplay to expect, and how it compares to other large PUBG maps like Miramar and Taego.
